DESCRIPTION
For this project, I was tasked with laying out and redesigning an annual report for a company whose existing design needs help. The annual report had to be a minimum of 20 pages and the design had to follow a consistent theme. The company I chose to re-design was “United Way of Allen County”.
STEP ONE: MOODBOARD
The first step in this process after deciding which annual report to focus on was creating a moodboard. This is a way to show the type of style I was going for. As you can see from this moodboard, I really wanted to focus on geometrical shapes and rainbow colors as well as a very organized layout.
STEP TWO: SKETCHES
These sketches were great for putting my ideas out onto paper and seeing where I wanted to take my design going further.
STEP THREE: REFINED SKETCHES
These refined sketches of the cover made it easier to see how I actually wanted to cover to look for the design.
STEP FOUR: FIRST DESIGNS
The first designs I made really went in on the colorful color pallet. After putting these colors into the table of contents and the cover, I realized that wasn't what this design needed and did not give the theme of growth.
STEP FIVE: NEW COLORS
After realizing the rainbow doesn't go with the design, I decided to stick to one color that would definitely give off the vibe of growth: green.
STEP SIX: EDITS TO FRONT COVER AND TABLE OF CONTENTS
Using this new color, I updated the cover and table of contents to match the new theme.
STEP SEVEN: FIRST ROUND OF LAYOUT DESIGNS
The next step in creating this annual report was to create every other spread that would be going into the report.
STEP EIGHT: NEXT ROUND OF DESIGNS
After creating these designs, it was then time to add all the photos and make edits necessary to create the best-looking design that I could. I also changed the way some of the graphs looked and the way a few pages were laid out.
STEP NINE: FINAL
A year later, I revisited this annual report to add to my portfolio and made a few changes. For example, I decreased the stroke size of all the images and changed the point size of headers and sub headers. I also changed the way the pages were laid out as well.
MOCKUPS
Once the design was finished, I put a few spreads into some mockups to see how the report would look if it had actually been printed.
