DESCRIPTION
For this project, I was responsible for coming up with a theme, layout, design, development, and production of my own magazine. To be specific, I had to create a front and back cover, two, well throughout and written articles, an ad as well as a creative piece. I wanted my magazine to be about how the audience can be original as well as having my design be original in itself.
STEP ONE: MOODBOARD
I first started with coming up with an overall theme for the magazine. After a bit of back and forth I decided on going with the idea of originality. This is because to me art is very subjective, everyone has their own style and way of creating and I find this fascinating so I really went in on this idea. To capture this I created an original pattern illustration for the back cover and decided to illustrate the ad portion of the project. I feel that this project really highlighted a lot of strengths with pattern design as well as layout design.
STEP TWO: LOGO SKETCHES
After the initial idea came the sketches for the logo of the magazine I was trying to create. The name I chose was Spotlight Design. This came after coming up with the idea of originality, the name just seemed to fit as it focused on specific designs, putting a spotlight on what makes them original.
STEP THREE: LAYOUT/COVER SKETCHES
After making the logo sketches next came sketches for the layout of the magazine pages as well as the cover and other contact for the magazine.
STEP FOUR: DIGITALIZE SKETCHES
STEP FIVE: COVER DESIGN
The next step in this process was creating the cover and back for the magazine. The first round of designs.
STEP SIX: SPREADS
STEP SEVEN: CRITIQUES
STEP EIGHT: EDITS
After making the first concepts, I worked on the designs a little more. The front cover was completely redesigned and I replaced one article and completely wrote a new one about originality.
STEP NINE: MOCKUPS
